Behind the Lens
On my photographic style: This is very simple for me. I have ALWAYS loved capturing people at their most authentic. Whether it's through conversation over a board game, with a pen and pencil, or with my camera during a session. I thoroughly enjoy getting to know everyone that I work with so that they feel as comfortable as possible during their session. And when you are comfortable, your personality emerges. Do you feel awkward having your photo taken? I love that; I am awkward in front of the camera too! Interestingly enough, laughing because you feel awkward winds up looking beautiful in photos. So I encourage you to embrace that awkwardness and be at ease with it.
I love to take a variety of candids and creative, natural poses. When editing, I will make some vibrant, some black and white, and some a little vintage. This gives a nice, well-rounded collection of photos.
On how I spend my time without a camera: We live in the countryside and love it. I love movies and TV shows. Spending time finding treasures at antique stores with coffee in hand makes for a fantastic morning. I love spending time with my friends. We are a food allergy household (dairy, egg, peanut, and tree nut allergies) and I have become a good, healthy cook because of it. I love making soups. Drinking a good, local beer on our deck at the end of the day, whether it's with family or friends, is pretty much perfection for me.
But most of all, I LOVE spending time with my sweet and rambunctious two-year-old, Griffin. He is an amazing force of nature and I can't believe the little man he is already becoming. He certainly keeps me busy during the non-camera-related parts of my life!
